For six months, I observed it from my car.<\/span><\/p>\n

The same day.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time.<\/span><\/p>\n

Every Saturday, at exactly two o’clock in the afternoon, he would arrive at the cemetery on his Harley, park near the old oak tree, and walk straight to Emily’s grave.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then he would sit by her grave for a whole hour.<\/span><\/p>\n

She never brought flowers.<\/span><\/p>\n

He never left a note.<\/span><\/p>\n

He never spoke loudly enough for me to hear him.<\/span><\/p>\n

She simply sat cross-legged on the grass, her head bowed, as if she were carrying a pain too heavy to bear.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first time I saw him, I thought he had made a mistake.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was a large cemetery. It was easy to mistake the graves for one another.<\/span><\/p>\n

But he returned the following Saturday.<\/span><\/p>\n

And the next one.<\/span><\/p>\n

And one last one.<\/span><\/p>\n

Week after week, this stranger mourned my wife as if she belonged to him too.<\/span><\/p>\n

At first, I was confused.<\/span><\/p>\n

So I got angry.<\/span><\/p>\n

Who was he?<\/span><\/p>\n

How did he know Emily?<\/span><\/p>\n

Why did this man come every week when some members of his own family almost never came?<\/span><\/p>\n

Emily had died fourteen months earlier from breast cancer.<\/span><\/p>\n

He was only forty-three years old.<\/span><\/p>\n

We had been married for twenty years.<\/span><\/p>\n

Two children.<\/span><\/p>\n

A peaceful home.<\/span><\/p>\n

A normal life.<\/span><\/p>\n

At least, that’s what I thought.<\/span><\/p>\n

With this man, nothing in my wife’s life made sense.<\/span><\/p>\n

Emily was a pediatric nurse.<\/span><\/p>\n

She was a volunteer at the church.<\/span><\/p>\n

He drove a silver van and prepared snacks for every school event.<\/span><\/p>\n

His idea to break the rules was to order dessert before dinner.<\/span><\/p>\n

But this biker was mourning her as if he had lost someone irreplaceable.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sometimes, from my car, I could see his shoulders trembling.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sometimes, before leaving, he would place a rough hand on his tombstone and hold it there for several seconds.<\/span><\/p>\n

As if he were saying goodbye once again.<\/span><\/p>\n

After three months, I couldn’t take it anymore.<\/span><\/p>\n

That Saturday, I got out of the car and walked towards him.<\/span><\/p>\n

He heard my footsteps, but he didn’t turn around.<\/span><\/p>\n

His hand was still pressed against Emily’s name.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Excuse me,” I said, my voice drier than I intended. “I’m Emily’s husband. I think it’s time you told me who you are.”<\/span><\/p>\n

For a long time, he said nothing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then he slowly stood up, turned towards me, and looked like a man who had been waiting for this question for six months.<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, he said:<\/span><\/p>\n

“Your wife was mine…”<\/span><\/p>\n
