A team of doctors in Japan has developed a groundbreaking drug that could allow people to grow new teeth naturally.
Instead of relying on dentures or implants, this treatment activates the body’s own ability to form new teeth. The research is led by Dr. Katsu Takahashi of the Medical Research Institute at Kitano Hospital. His team discovered that by blocking the protein USAG-1 – which normally prevents the formation of more teeth – tooth growth can be stimulated. The treatment was successful in trials on mice. Clinical trials on humans are currently being prepared with the goal of making the treatment available by 2030.
