From 7 July 2026, all newly registered cars and vans in the EU must include an advanced driver distraction warning system.
In most vehicles, this uses a small infrared camera to monitor where the driver is looking. If the driver looks away from the road for too long, the car will issue a visual, audible or vibrating warning. ![]()
