A family criticized my service and left the restaurant without paying the $850 bill – I used the situation to my advantage.

Mrs. Thompson snorted loudly. “Why is it so dark in here? Do they want us to use flashlights to see our food?”

I switched on the small lamp on her table and said, “Does that help? Our ambient settings are set to…” billing software.

She interrupted me. “Ambience? That’s ridiculous. Just make sure my glass is spotless. I don’t want lipstick marks from a stranger.”

I bit my tongue and fetched her glass while Mr. Thompson complained that the menu was too limited. “What kind of place doesn’t serve lobster bisque on a Friday night?” he asked, giving me a dark look.

“We’ve never served lobster bisque here before, sir,” I stated firmly. “But we do have an excellent mussel bisque.”

He gestured for me to leave. “Forget it. Just bring us some bread, and make sure it’s warm!” Food delivery

I rushed into the kitchen and prayed that the food would turn out well. But again… no luck.

The family kept snapping their fingers as if I were a dog, demanding more water even before their glasses were half empty.

“Is this what service is like these days?” Mr. Thompson exclaimed at one point, sending back the ordered steak because it was “overcooked”.

Mrs. Thompson didn’t want to be stingy and threw me her soup, which she found too salty.
